The front end was painted due to the usual 911 stonechips by Porsche Edinburgh less than 5000 miles ago, and this is stamped in the book, so it looks like it`s only done 5k, as opposed to 58k...what a bonus! The black paintwork has a lovely glisten to it, and doesn`t show any of the usual issues of a black car. Paperwork/History The car comes with a fully stamped up history, the first 2 services being Porsche main dealer, then the last 2 being renowned Porsche specialist Deutschtek in Glasgow. The last service was April 2011, so not due again until 2013 and it`s only done just over 4000 miles since then. Last Oct/Nov - less than 2000 miles ago the car had core plugs replaced at Deutschtek and a new clutch fitted. At this point the car also had a fresh oil and filter of course as well. Nurburgring Ring dream car. Comfortable high speed cruising for hours on end, drive it to a circuit for a few very quick laps or just enjoy an early morning blast on some quiet country roads, this is a car which will reward you with a smile and a buzz every time you strap in. Similar in appearance to an RS replica, with the classic `Duck`s Tail` rear spoiler, but quietly understated in black trim rather than chrome, it is a Porsche which turns heads wherever it goes... The shell was professionally upgraded by Chris Flavell of Fenn Lane Motor Sport some six years ago, using a really excellent galvanised SC body to overcome the rust problems which plagued the very early cars. The rebuild included rolling and welding a steel sun roof delete so it is both totally rigid and waterproof. The body now uses Chris’s custom long GRP bonnet, wings, air dam and duck-tail for a substantial weight saving. Rear lights are the 1970 ‘R’ pattern with encapsulated LED bulbs. Rear LED Fog/wet race light. Paint is Gulf Blue and the shell was pumped full with Dinitrol cavity wax on delivery so remains completely rust free. Suspension uses the later SC alloy cross beam and rear arms. Bilstein shocks with new inserts. 21 mm Elephant hollow torsion bars. Strut brace with welded brackets. The geometry was set up by Porsche guru Crispin Manners so the car corners on the proverbial rails. | Wheels are rare and genuine 7” and 8” wide Fuchs - fitted with a good set of Toyo 888`s. Fronts are 205-50-15 and the rears 225-50-15. Grip in the dry is simply fantastic and still very acceptable in the wet. | Interior has full lightweight trim including door cards and pull straps, all from Apelco, USA. New OEM headlining. Seats are Sparco Evo One and Evo Two - there is a slight difference in widths to fit the fuller figure! Leather Momo steering wheel with Porsche horn boss. Full 6 point Willans safety harnesses. Heated front and rear screens. Manual window winders. Rear bolted-in roll cage. The front cage and side bars are included in the sale but have never been fitted. Alloy foot board and navigator’s foot rest. Fire extinguisher etc. | Engine is a bomb proof 3 litre with hydraulic timing chain update, running on triple Weber carbs. 1 5/8th stainless steel headers and stainless steel silencer. Latest MSD 6AL2 ignition system (you can dial in rev limit instead of using the earlier chips) with MSD coil and tach adaptor. All new shielded leads. New turbo rocker covers with Weltmeister Silicone gaskets. Setrab Proline 50 element front oil cooler. Engine gave a very conservative 208 hp on Alan Jeffrey’s rolling road so there is a lot more available if you really do need more power (the power/weight ratio is already pretty good). | Gearbox is a 915 magnesium cased mechanical drive box. 3,600 miles since a complete rebuild by Peter Tognola and filled with Swepco special gearbox oil. A genuine Porsche short shift gear change is fitted. Brake system was completely rebuilt with new everything from copper pipes to EBC racing pads. Electrics were professionally re-wired and fuse boxes changed to modern plug in fuses. There is a new alternator and a lightweight Odyssey sealed battery. | Although much of the car was updated or replaced six years ago, it is still registered on the original plates as a 1972 Historic Vehicle, so it remains tax and emissions free! A new MOT will be obtained before sale. turbos and chose this one from an independent Porsche specialist at the end of February because it had A decent amount of service historyA long MOTA lot of engine work done (Can`t really read the receipt but £2000+ spent 9k miles ago including pistons and rings)87L fuel tank (I think that was an option)Re-covered seats (so not about ready to fall apart like many I looked at)None of the work it needed would stop me using itWhen I got it I put nearly a thousand commuting miles on it pretty quick and then started to get to the bottom of some of its niggles. As this was meant to be my long term rolling restoration project I din`t mind spending the money on it and I replaced everything I found that was not 100%. It had an intermittent misfire caused by a duff rotor arm, but it got:In tank pump (Genuine Porsche)Main fuel pump (Bosch OEM) Fuel filterInjectors (Bosch OEM)HT leads (Beru)Plugs (Champion, I think)Distributor CapRotor arm (NOS item that I had)Charge tube sealsDITC control unit connector replaced with custom hard-wired loomI also installed a mechanical boost gauge. I`m not a fan of chopping things about, so it is located where the clock was (who needs a clock in a 924?!). I did keep the clock, and feed the capillary through the existing glands so it can be removed without a trace later. I installed this just to see that the turbo, waste gate and compressor bypass valve were all working as they should. As you can see in the video, they are all doing exactly what they should. The gauge doesn`t read a lot of vacuum as its plumbed in upstream of the throttle body. I have made this little video showing a cold start, a little run and a hot start afterwards. It starts on the button hot or cold, and goes well for a thirty year old car (worth noting that due to its low weight this has, for example, a 16% better power to weight ratio than a 225 Quattro TT ) . Now sadly the pressures of starting a new business, and demands from the ever reasonable and helpful people at HMRC mean that I cant justify keeping this as a project, or indeed even running it as my commuter. So it has to go.I`ve had a few 924s over the years and as it seems likely that I won`t have another one soon, I am including all my 931 spares with the car. These Comprise:Two spare gearboxes (one dry and tight, bought from a specialist breaker with a warranty, one unknown)bell housingselector rod assemblyclutch (used but ok)torque tubemany, many small spares (switches, relays, fasteners, window motor, instrument set, etc, etc)Not a lot more to say. This is not a concourse ready car, if it were it would be £6k+. It has the following issues that were on my list to sort:smell of petrol when cornering hard with 40l in the tank (you can see in one of the photos that a section of carpet is missing. It was shot, so it went, the rear seat swab is currently removed)Top right corner of the windscreen drips in heavy rain (currently sealed with tape) Window motors are temperamental. Wiring is good but they seem to need lubricating regularly to keep them working.Drivers side sill cover is missing (no idea where or when that went!)Corrosion in the front wing mud traps (where the outer and inner wings meet behind the wheels) - obviously passed the last MOT like this as no sharp edges resultObviously this does not imply that everything else on the car is as it left the factory, it is thirty years old after all. But it is a good straight car with a strong engine and no major issues that I`ve found, and I do drive it like I mean it. Will be really sorry to see this one go. Now for the boring bits:I like my 100% positive feed back, and have described the car as I know it, but I would strongly recommend viewing this car before bidding. original as far as I am aware, with the only modifications being, the installation of a CD/Radio player, and the fitting of quick response throttle cam (I have the original). The car has lived its life so far in North Wales. It was bought at Dingle Garages in Colwyn Bay in 1983 and was returned and resold by them to its second owner in 1987. The second owner passed it to his son in 1997 and he sold it to me in March 2009 after 22 years in the same family. I have the service history booklet that documents the mileage up to August 1986, and all MOTs from 1986 to the present day. The car has just passed its MOT and the current MOT expires 1st April 2013. The car is also taxed to the end of September 2012 so insure it and drive away. I have a large number of receipts going back to 1996/7. When I bought the car in 2009 it had only done 7 miles between the previous 2 MOTs and it had seen little use in the two years before that. Although the car had been garaged it did not have any antifreeze, and the head gasket had failed due to age, and corrosion of the gasket itself. The oil cooler seals had also gone, and oil was present in the cooling water. Fortunately there was no evidence of water in the oil. The top end of the engine was stripped down and the head sent to a specialist for checking. There was some minor corrosion damage around where the head gasket had corroded through. This was repaired and the head was skimmed prior to rebuild. The oil was cleaned out of the cooling system and the oil cooler seals were replaced. Whilst rebuilding the top end the opportunity was taken to replace the timing belt and tensioner, and the balance shaft belt and tensioner. The air and oil filters and plugs were replaced also the HT leads which were showing signs of age. The repairs were completed in May 2009 at which time the mileage was 80,134. I have photographs showing the engine stripped and the head before and after repairs. The car has now completed just over 85,000 miles and apart from an annual oil/filter change, the other items that have been attended to in the last 3 years are, new rear discs and pads, replacement radiator, replacement tailgate seal, replacement tailgate struts, replacement battery (March 2011), replaced sun visor clips. The car looks and drives very well and still turns heads wherever we go. The interior is predominantly black with a white pinstripe. The front seats have leather bolsters with a small amount of damage to the drivers side which you can see in the photo. There are some very small cracks to the dash around the front vent which you need to look for to see. These need to be repaired asap to avoid further deterioration. I have fitted four brand new tyres for this years MOT. The carpets and boot cover are in good condition with aftermarket overmats protecting the floor. The car is an early spec model. It has electric front windows and electric adjustable door mirrors. The car is fitted with a foxguard immobiliser. The sun roof is manual and the original sunroof bag is still with the car, as are the tool roll, jack, both sets of keys, and the spacesaver wheel. The number plate is the original and is staying with the car. So if your name is Roy or if you don`t mind "Hey Boy" then you have the perfect combination. I have an agreed valuation certificate for the car at £4250 which given the low mileage, condition and number plate I believe is a reasonable assessment of its value. What you can`t put a price on is the way driving the car makes you feel, and the grin it puts on your face. The car is advertised elsewhere and may be removed from ebay without warning. The car is currently road legal and I will take serious potential buyers for a test drive. I expect a serious offer to have been made before the test drive. Please come and have a look and listen before you decide. If we agree a price then I will ask for a £200 cash deposit. I have owned the car since, during which time I have covered a total of just less than 8000 miles.The Bodywork and paintwork are in very good condition - it has a few very minor blemishes and scratches, but the overall condition is excellent for a car that is 18 years old.Fitted with unmarked Cup 2 alloys with black-crested centre caps and locking wheel nuts (all genuine Porsche). Continental Contisport 2 N-rated tyres all round. The car has driver and passenger airbags, factory-fitted alarm and a Thatcham Cat 2 immobiliser (installation certificate included). The car has two sets of keys including wheel lock keys and immobiliser tags. The interior is in excellent condition. The front seats were re-connollised in 2010, so do not have the usual wear on the bolsters. The car also has genuine Porsche `Tequipment` over-mats and retaining clips. We have just imported this car from dry/ sunny California, it is obviously left hand drive, the structure of the car is exceptionally good and there is no rot or repairs and there is no evidence of any damage repairs, the only body damage on the car can be seen on the pictures in particular around the headlamp bezel area on the o/s. The car has been standing unused for some time, this was due to a slipping / worn out clutch, the engine starts and sounds well all gears select without problem so in essence a new clutch would get it mobile again although brakes/ steering / suspension will certainly need a thorough inspection and any issues attending to prior to use. the car is complete and would be a superb project for anyone who fancies doing a revamp but without the body shell restoration costs associated to UK/ European cars witch is always the expensive soul destroying part, surely much better to have a car that has never been rotten than a patchwork quilt that never matches the quality of an original unrepaired bodyshell? The targa top although not shown on the pictures is present but requires re covering. Please study the pictures in detail as we have tried to make them show all aspects of the car. So if you fancy a 911 project at an affordable price this car has great potential as well as the flexibility if desired to provide a running restoration project. All UK duties are paid and USA paperwork ar in hand so registration will be simple once the car is MOT`d.
