(seemed a good idea at the time!) He was offered £1550 as a trade in price against his new car, But the Garage suggested he sell it privately because there is a market for classic sport Porsche which they don’t have access to.. The engine had a top end re-build three years ago at which time the timing belt was also replaced, at a cost of £1500 (there is a receipt for this work) and it’s only covered 10,000 miles since, It`s a 25 year old classic sports cars were built for speed not luxury, hence no air-conditioning or even power steering. It does however have electric windows. I’ve driven the car and it goes really well. Although sports cars aren’t to everyone’s taste, if you’re looking for a reasonably priced classic Porsche convertible, then this car won`t disappoint. The bodywork is really nice for its age, with no visible signs of rusting, although there is a previously repaired patch on the front nearside wing that hasn’t been repainted yet. The Kenwood CD radio in the car comes with some good sounding speakers at the rear of the vehicle, but if you don`t want to listen to music, there is a nice sport-sounding exhaust note! There are some minor electrical issues such as the handbrake light does not illuminate on the dashboard when engaged. Also the boot-release button’s insecure in the housing due to a previous attempt at repair; although working it needs attention. And a couple of bulbs on the speedo binnacle need replacing. Additionally, the glove box light isn`t working at the moment. Although these are very minor and easily corrected, I thought I’d highlight as much as I could after giving the vehicle a look over. The main thing is the car performs like you’d expect from a classic Porsche. It has an amazing sporty growl from the exhaust and all the important instruments are working i.e. speedo, rev counter, fuel gauge, altimeter, clock, oil pressure gauge and temp gauge. There is some expected wear to the driver`s seat squab, highlighted in the photographs. I also think the car could do with a wheel-balance. I noticed a bit of a wobble at speed. And I think the roof could do with adjusting or replacement. Although it doesn’t have any rips/tears there are gap`s where the roof and windows meet. It has black leather seats and matching armrest, all finished with yellow piping and contrasting yellow door inserts and gear-knob gaiter. The car could also do with a good clean on the inside, but apart from that I don`t think there`s anything else to mention. I’ve tried to list as many of the positives and negatives as I can. The M.O.T is until June 2011 and the tax until Nov 2010. There is some history for the car but not too much. The car is located in Northwich, Cheshire close to JCT 19 of the M6. Unfortunatly the ignition keys were lost so to move the car the ignition barrel / lock has had to be forced and is damaged.However I understand the engine and mechanics were in good running order when first stored.(engine heard running prior to storage) and mileage believed to be genuine.All body panels are in good condition with a small dent or two but with no rust. it for 3 years. It has been registered as a Cat C insurance repair about 8 years ago, and has all certificates to say the repairs were done correctly. Loads of copy bills for repairs and servicing from the past. The car really drives well for its age, and always starts ok too. piece of history and if any Air cooled 911 fan tells you that this is not a real porsche as it is water cooled they are not living in the real world. I have been Porsche mad since i was 16 and have had a 911 and this car is every bit as good but special in its own way. I purchased the car from oxted and at the time i was given receipts for new belts rollers and water pump fitting. the car has only had oil and filter change in my ownership and if you purchase the car you may feel it needs a service which i must admit it now would benefit from. I have covered less than 2500 miles in the car. The car suffers from the usual 944 niggles but in no way effects the running and enjoyment you get from driving the car. It is by no means a concourse car and this is reflected in the asking price. But i must say this car is well admired at shows and classic events. The car was resprayed by the owner I purchased it from and on close inspection it is not the best but it does look a £7000 car if you step back 5 paces or if you flash past when driving in the sun. Hood is in fair condition and keeps things dry but does have signs of repair an friction marks. I usual only use it on sunny days but if you got could out it remains watertight. I could go on forever but a true classic car owner or Porsche enthusiast will know what he or she wants so I will leave my mobile to call. This is a true classic car that you can enjoy for the weekend/classic car shows and makes our british cars fall by the wayside. The script required an 80’s sports car that looked new at the start of the film, but needed to be shown with ‘accident’ damage part way through the story. The 924 fitted that brief well. The short film was competed and was shown at the National Film Theatre Cinema on the South bank during the Summer. I should be able to obtain a copy for the new owner. | I spent a lot of time preparing the car after purchase to get it looking as `sharp` as possible for filming. Once the work was complete I drove it from Bedfordshire to Bournemouth where the film was being shot. Once filming of the ‘New’ car had taken place the ‘accident damage ’ was added to the car by superficially ‘pushing in’ the passenger side wing, and distressing the paint (so it looked like it had hit a fence post) as required for a specific static shot in the script. This damage was deliberate and restricted solely to the passenger side front wing panel. The ‘damage’ was created artifically whilst the car was static. The car has NOT been crashed! | With filming complete the car was returned to me and the damaged wing has now been professionally repaired. Both wings and the front valance were repainted at the same time simply for aesthetic purposes whilst it was in the paint shop. The whole car was also polished. | Before it went to the film shoot considerable time and expense was spent on this car, cleaning, refining, repairing and detailing it to correct minor faults and problems. The seams can`t be easily restitched because the fabric is actually degrading so the material won`t hold any thread and simply tears again. This car is no different but better than most. For the film shoot I carefully glued the seams back together as a temporary repair, and although the fix was for aesthetic purposes only for the film it looks OK and seems to be holding up to being sat upon. Please see detailed photos below. I believe the car is good enough to take to shows as is, but if you are a perfectionist it would be best to get the seats re-trimmed. New `pasha` check material is available at a price of £45 per yard from the internet. Alternatively you can replace the seats with the later more durable 944 interior or seats (which are readily available second hand). Although not perfect this interior looks good and if I were keeping the car I would keep it as it is.New Number plates and fixingsExhaust has been reset with new brackets, and a nearly new (but second hand) centre exhaust box was fitted. The car has three exhaust boxes and the centre one was missing when I bought it, the previous owner I guess having replaced it with a straight pipe)New second hand fuel metering head fitted, after a thorough cleaning New fuel filter fitted ( special design for this car)A known weakness on this model is the plastic dash top. These split very badly from sun damage over time – most have. The car has been repainted over the years so some areas are a little faded and there a few little bumps and dings but nothing really unsightly and no visible body rust. The engine bay paint and boot area are in general good order - see pictures. The paint on the wing mirrors is faded but I suggest they would be easy to repaint. | 2/. The interior is very good. Many aspects are immaculate, with the exception of already mentioned seat facings and tiny cracks on dash vents. This is better than most cars I`ve seen, and the seats could be repaired to mint with a little time and investment. Carpets are good but the heel pad area on the drivers footwell carpet is worn locally. It is presently covered with a fitted rubber mat. | 3/. The car drives well but 924s have a recognised warm start problem. Cold start valve times out when the car is warm before it fires. This car had the problem but has been fitted with the kit which overcomes it. | 4/. Electric mirrors and electric windows are a bit noisy but work OK. | 5/. The Lift out sunroof panel needs a new seal if you intend to take it out a lot, the seal has lost it’s `velour` covering ( so appears white from the outside ) and has split in places which have been repaired ( hence the black sections shown in the photos). It does not leak as far as I know. | 6/. The rear Glass hatch window has a black printed surround on the inside around the lower edge and sides. As with most of these cars this has started to flake off on the rear edge just because of age. It does not detract and has been tidied up. It could be repaired by masking and repainting on the inside of the glass if required. See photos. | 7/. If I were keeping the car I would take it for a Krypton tune to get the car tuned perfectly, it runs well but I think could perhaps run better. Temperature gauge seems to read on the cool side, but the cooling fans cut in and out as they should. It doesn`t overheat. | 8/. as it needed new bearings in the steering column, I was quoted 1 week from the mechanic unfortunately the parts took longer than expected so I decided to save messing anyone around I would remove it then relist when I know all the work has been completed...That time has now come and I have enjoyed driving it around since! About the car...The car originally came from Virginia (US) and was imported to Holland, I went to Holland and imported the car into the UK. The car need a number of things sorted to get through it’s MOT of which has all been done to a very high standard. Since the MOT (March) I have had a full body respray of which as per the pictures is a great job. I have put 911 seats because when I got the car the seats in it were hideous! Looked like something from an 80’s ford fiesta! So I decided to go with 911’s I was going to have them re-trimmed but ran out of money on the project! There is a tear on the passenger seat (where your bum parks) which looks unsightly but other than that they are in great condition. I have made a carpet set myself (of which needs finishing – If i get time I will finish it but if not supply the carpet to finish yourself). As per the photo’s the car looks great but could do with some finishing to the inside – the price I feel reflects this. The body work is absolutely straight and underneath is as good as the top. I had a new floor (completely new floor) welded in for it’s MOT and they did a fantastic job. Originally the car came with a Porsche 1600 engine. This has been replaced with a VW 1600, it does still have its 5 speed Porsche 901 gearbox. (So it is rapid on excelleration). Clutch and gearbox are fine, starts on the button first time everytime. Mot till mid-end March (will check exactly when) Tax Exempt. Has been garaged since the spray job (Sprayed only 6 weeks ago). The ignition key is not original but it still controls the ignition and steering lock and the key for the door lock is missing but you should be able to get some from porsche. car has never let us down, and this will be the case for many many years to come as long as it is serviced reguarly and cared for. we have always had the car serviced but not by porsche as our local dealer simply is far too many miles away. We are now moving to Spain to live so sadly for my wife the porsche has to go. As you can see its motd and taxed until the end of the month, and for a car on a 2001 plate i personally think its in beautiful condition. We have had other porsche cars so i will inform you of the common traits of the boxster - the ignition barrel can break up - i have had ours replaced by porsche so its new/cost £550. The rear plastic window will split on porsche boxsters after they are 7-8 years old - i have had a new rear window fitted by porsche last year so ours is new /cost £500. The clutch bearing can be heard - you can hear that on ours, but this is no problem as you will hear this on any boxster with 80k plus miles There is a tiny scuff on the left rear wheel, thats it I am trying to be as honest as i can about the car and share my knowledge incase you are looking at others.
