Description Model HistoryThe wider, more agressive and dramatic stance of the Turbo-charged 911 has distinguished it from its narrow bodied, normally aspirated stablemates right from 1976 to the present day. But early on Porsche realised that not everyone who wanted the look also wanted the performance. To this end in 1984 they introduced option M491 to the 3.2 Carrera, known as Turbo-look in Germany or Special Sport Equipment in the UK. This endowed the car with the flared wheel arches, 16"x7" and 16"x9" Fuch alloys, tea-tray spoiler and uprated brakes and suspension of the 911 Turbo but retained the normally aspirated 3.2 litre, 231bhp motor of the Carrera. The car didn`t actually become an official `model` until 1986/87 when it was formally designated the `Super Sport` in the UK but this has now become the name by which all of these cars are known. The combination of the Turbo`s looks and handling and the lower running costs of the 3.2 seems like a very tempting proposition today, but very few were actually sold new in the UK. No official figures are readily available but PCGB quote a total of just 74 known cars, 53 of which were official Super Sports and just 18 of these were Cabriolets. Today this makes them a very rare and, in the right condition, a nicely collectable modern classic 911.Interior & EquipmentThe Navy blue leather upholstery has all been recently retrimed and is in excellent condition, along with a new complete carpet set. All instruments and gauges work as they should. The car is fitted with a Gemini imobiliser and alarm system. The luggage compartment has also been recarpeted and is superb.ExteriorThe paintwork is stunning partly down to the galvanised body and partly down to exceptional care and the car not being used in adverse weather. The hood and tonneau cover are fairly new and are in excellent condition.Wheels, Tyres & BrakesStandard colour coded wheels with very good tyres and no kerb damage.Engine & TransmissionThe 3.2 litre engine is running perfectly and looking as good as new. The service history is excellent being mainly official Porsche dealer serviced.SummaryThe 3.2 Carrera is revered as the ultimate development of the original 911 which first appeared in 1963, before evolving over twenty years later into the more complex 964 series. These final cars were the most flexible and usable of Butzi Porsche`s original design. The all-alloy flat-6 engine, which had been fuel injected since 1971, received a final stretch to 3,164 cc, giving a torquey 231bhp, enough to propel the lithe and slippery coupe to over 150 mph, with 0-60 mph coming up in 5.6 seconds. All 3.2 Carreras feature galvanized bodies, which, together with Porsche`s legendary build quality, ensures that these classics are long-lasting. Such is the integrity and durability of the basic structure that whole legions of 3.2s have been turned into retro replicas by various companies.Registered in 1986, this example was factory-fitted from new with the optional wide body, part of the Supersport package that includes the stiffer suspension and larger, 917-derived brakes from the Turbo model.Finished in Grand Prix White with newly re-trimmed blue leather upholstery, the car is described as excellent condition all round. Recent service, brake pads, brake discs and tyres all round. Based on it`s milage over the past 3 years the car has been over serviced. I would reconmend not buying a second hand Boxster unless you know the Rear Main Oil Seal (RMS) has been replaced, as its an expensive job and a very common problem. As mentioned above, mine has just been done along with clutch and much more. I have all receipts for work done. The car is in excellent `honest` condition, with only 2 small parking dents on drivers side rear wing/wheel arch.
